As the Boston Red Sox built their game 5 World Series lead, fans back in Boston began buying World Series tickets. As the Red Sox were putting the finishing touches on winning game 5, fans back in Boston were busy buying Game 6 tickets to be played Wednesday in Fenway Park. The previous two World Series wins for the Red Sox took place in St. Louis and Colorado and fans are shelling out big bucks to witness the first Red Sox home clinching World Series win since 1918.

Across most sections at Fenway Park, Game 6 World Series tickets have doubled in price over the past week culminating with a buying spree Monday night as the Red Sox took a 3-2 lead in the World Series. As of Tuesday morning, World Series tickets being resold on Stubhub were down to 1,951 tickets with the lowest price at $813 for a Standing room only ticket.

Less than a week ago, a fan bought tickets in Field Box 22 in row H for $2,499 per ticket and last night an excited fan had to pay $5,644 for tickets in Field Box 22 row M. Game 6 World Series Tickets in the Infield Grandstand experienced the same increase. Several weeks ago Red Sox fans paid $795 for tickets in Section 26 row 18 and last night a fan paid $1,453 per ticket. Bleacher tickets experienced an even higher ticket price increase. World Series tickets in Section 38 resold for $390 on Stubhub and this morning fans were paying $900 for the same tickets.

Chicago Cubs fans should take notice. Should the Cubs take the lead coming back to Chicago in the World Series, expect World Series ticket prices to skyrocket like they have for the Boston Red Sox.
